Bible Memory

At Village Christian Academy, we are CHALLENGING students to grow in Christlike character. If we want our students to grow in their faith then the Words of scripture must be hidden in their hearts.
“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your foreheads as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” ”
(Deuteronomy 6:6-9)
Here are few reasons why Bible memory is important:

1

Build a Strong Foundation: For a house to stay strong when a storm comes, it must have a strong foundation. This is true for our spiritual growth as well. By memorizing scripture, God’s word becomes the foundation for our faith. God’s word is truth, and it shapes our thinking and everyday responses to the world.

2

Prepares us for Battle: We don’t know what battles or struggles we will face each day. What we do know is that in this world there will be trouble, but having Scripture hidden in our hearts can help us face whatever life throws at us.

3

Grow in Christlike Character: God’s word shows us the character of God, and we were created in God’s image. When we hide God’s word in our hearts we are able to know and understand who God is and reflect Him in our lives. When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus said, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind’” (Matthew 22:37).

4

Serve Others: Jesus went on to say, “A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:39). When Christ’s words are our words they help us to pay attention and notice the needs of others. God’s word is a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, and it reminds us to show love for others through service.

Lower Campus
Each month the students will memorize a scripture. The Lower campus uses Seeds Family Worship scripture songs to help students hide God’s word in their hearts. Students will dive deeper into the message of the verse during Assembly. We encourage families to join us in our scripture memory.

Upper Campus
Each month the Upper Campus students will memorize a scripture. The Upper Campus uses the program Dwell Differently to encourage and help our students commit God’s word to heart. Each month Dwell takes the first letter of each word and creates a beautiful, creative design. Students are provided with temporary tattoos, a print and key tag of the verse design to aid in their memorization.
